VASP Workshop 2025

We are excited to announce the forthcoming VASP workshop,  co-organized with the VASP team, to be held in Rennes, France, from June 30^th to July 4^th, 2025.

This will be an in-person workshop, providing a unique opportunity for participants to engage directly with experts and peers in the field.

The number of participants is limited to 80, so be sure to register early!

VASP Scholarship:

Applications for scholarships supporting student (PhD and postdoc) participation are now open. Interested candidates are invited to send a motivation letter and a CV to vasp@sciencesconf.org. The deadline for applications is April 14.

This workshop deals with density-functional-theory (DFT) calculations using the Vienna Ab-initio Simulation Package (VASP). VASP is one of the most popular electronic structure codes performing ab-initio quantum-mechanical molecular dynamics (MD) using pseudopotentials and a plane wave basis set. The workshop is a unique opportunity to learn the use, power and limitations of the package accompanied by in-person tutoring of the authors and developers of the code. The activities will be aimed at graduate students and researchers from industry and academia. The only pre-requisite is a basic knowledge of solid state physics and chemistry.

Accommodation and Travel: Participants are responsible for their own accommodation and travel arrangements. A list of recommended hotels and travel tips will be provided on the registration page.

The workshop will consist of morning lectures and afternoon pratical sessions. The following topics will be covered:

• Introduction to the projector-augmented wave (PAW) method;
• Basics of structure optimization and machine learning force fields (MLFF);
• Data analysis and visualization using py4vasp;
• Electron-phonon coupling (new!) and phonons without external packages;
• Magnetism (spin-polarized, SOC, noncollinearity, MAE, spin torque);
• Exchange-correlation functionals revisited.

Registration and Fees:

Registrations to VASP workshop are now open. Once the registration is completed, the payment will be requested in a second step current March 2025. Please note that the total number of participants is limited to 80 and places will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.

The registration fee (incl. 10% VAT) for the workshop is €440. Thanks to VASP's sponsorship, scholarships supporting student (PhD and postdoc) participation will be available*, significantly reducing the fee to €165. This fee includes access to all lectures and practical sessions, workshop materials, and coffee breaks. Lunches, the buffet during the poster session, and the gala dinner are also included.

Payment is possible by credit card or order form (Bon de commande, only for French academic labs).

*Priority will be given to PhD students. More details about the application for the student scholarships will be given soon.
